Earlier this week, Nick sent out an email announcing a new approach to Giving Tuesday fundraising: to not raise funds on Giving Tuesday.

To give you a glimpse behind the scenes: he and I discussed this and decided that sitting out the manic scramble on Giving Tuesday would be good for us, and good for you, our members, too.

Mind you, Giving Tuesday itself is not a bad idea at all. It’s a great way to consider the causes that are important to us right after we’ve enjoyed a major holiday (and some major holiday shopping!)

But I’m a donor to several causes as well, and my inbox on Giving Tuesday, frankly, is a nightmare. All of the folks writing to me are doing important work, and I want to help them. But it’s overwhelming, and Nick and I simply don’t want to pile on.

So we ask you to consider ahead of November 28 what our work means to you.

Maybe the recent win in West Virginia resonated with you. We won the case for our client who refused to be punished for not participating in a religious recovery program.

Or maybe the free speech rights on social media are a topic of interest to you. We filed an amicus brief with the Supreme Court on the issue of elected officials blocking constituents with whom they disagree.

Perhaps you love the fact that we support more than 200 affiliate groups nationwide who do fantastic work on the ground in every state.

Whatever your reason, we appreciate your support on any day of the year, not just on Giving Tuesday. So please consider a donation now, and enjoy just a tiny bit less inbox insanity on November 28, courtesy of all of us here at American Atheists.

All the best,

Martina Fern
Senior Director of Development
