Across the country, politicians are working to restrict Americans’ access to abortion, gender-affirming care, and even accurate health information. New York has the chance to continue leading the way by protecting care — and the professionals who provide it.
Three bills are sitting on Governor Hochul’s desk right now that would do just that… if she signs them into law.
Shield Law 2.0 (S.4914-B/A.5480-C) would strengthen New York’s protections for people who seek, provide, or help others access reproductive and gender-affirming care. And it would ensure your home state will not be complicit in other states’ or the Trump Administration’s attacks on providers and patients.
New York Health Information Privacy Act (S.929/A.2141) would put control of personal health data — from fitness apps, search engines, and period trackers — back in the hands of the New Yorkers to whom it belongs, shielding intimate information from misuse by anti-choice and anti-trans officials.
Healthcare Transparency Act (S.3486/A.3862) would require New York hospitals to clearly disclose what services they provide — including abortion and gender-affirming care — so patients can make informed decisions and state policymakers can identify gaps in access.
Together, these bills would form a vital line of defense against intensifying attacks on personal privacy, bodily autonomy, and our right to accessible and affordable care.
