Dear Friend,

It’s our favorite time of year: the War on Christmas™©®. Are your muskets loaded, your feet nice and dry? Excellent, Soldier, as you were.

While the religious right continues to promote a narrative over some imagined war on a pagan holiday, we here at American Atheists know how to walk and chew gum at the same time. This week, our colleague Melina Cohen not only answered the ridiculous claims of a Christian nationalist spokesperson with an excellent op-ed, she and the rest of our team also dug into the issues that are truly important to our members:

For example, on Tuesday, we released a statement on Ryan Walters’ failed bid as Trump’s Education Secretary. To increase his chances, Walters, who is Oklahoma’s State Superintendent of Schools, spent $25,000 of taxpayer money (and allocated millions more) on Trump-branded bibles for use in public school classrooms. We are demanding answers and giving Oklahomans easy-to-use tools to insist their community schools “teach, don’t preach.”

This followed another incredible op-ed written last week by Tim Ward, our Oklahoma State Director. In The Oklahoman, Tim gave Ryan Walters a report card to remember.

And in case you missed it, Nick penned an article about Pete Hegseth, Trump’s nominee to lead the Department of Defense. You know Nick; he brings the receipts.

Meanwhile, we’re also busy planning next year’s national convention in Minneapolis; stay tuned!

We won’t let Christian nationalists advance their ridiculous War on Christmas narrative without setting the record straight. But we also won’t let them distract us from the real fights: protecting secular public schools, keeping extremists from threatening our national security, and building a strong, bold atheist community that’s unafraid to speak out and empowered to share our stories.

And because I know you value that kind of nimble and effective advocacy, I invite you to make a year-end donation and join us as we go into 2025 with a boost of determination and some serious fire in the belly for the important battles ahead.

Thank you,

Martina Fern
